Well, if you ever want to feel as out of place as humanly possible, all you have to do, is be a Guy, and show up to a Mary Kay Cosmetics Event! I was asked to shoot at the Mary Kay Shades of Summer new product launch event held at the Coast Hotel in Chilliwack last night. As I walked through the entrance, 50+ pairs of eyes were on me! I felt soooo uncomfortable. I know all these women were thinking the same thing, "why is a guy at a try the new products night", but once I got out the "Big Guns" (My Camera) and the announcement that I was there to take pictures, everyone was OK with me being there.Here are a few shots of the Women trying the products and having a great time! I had the opportunity to take some pictures of my beautiful Sister-In-Law Alice Trachuk this past weekend. We had planned for me to follow her around taking pictures as she got ready for her big day. First we went to get her hair done by Katrina, at Razors Edge Hair Gallery where I took a few shots of the amazing creation Katrina put together for Alice (extensions and all). Once we got back home from the Salon, Alice finished up her Make-Up, and slid into her Hot Pink Prom Dress and was ready for her Photo Shoot.Her and I then went outside to some choice spots we picked out to get some glamorous shots of her done to the nines! Once the photo shoot was finished, we all hopped into the van and headed for MSA Arena where the Abbotsford Collegiate 2010 Grand March was going to happen.I snapped a few more posed and candid shots and of course took a few pictures of the outrageous entrances of some of the grads....

2010 Arduum BC Cup DH Race

My Wife and I went up to Arduum to scope out some spots to shoot at for the upcoming Arduum BC Cup DH race. The trail is pretty mint, but like always, scary as hell!!! We took a few shots of some riders practicing the course on Sunday before the big race. Agassiz Speedway

Stock Car Racing is in my Wife's blood, thanks to her Dad and Mom who raced back before they had any kids. With the oldest son in the Family driving, and Dad getting the itch to relive a bit of the past, we all checked out the racing action out at the Agassiz Speedway this past weekend!I didn't have the highest of expectations for the quality of the racing, but once we saw the crazy little 4 cylinder Hornet class ripping it up, my outlook changed considerably. There is a lot of skill to handle a car with 15 other racers on a 1/4 mile track that is only 55ft wide. There was a lot of bumping and close calls, but what impressed most was the quality of the racing and the track. It was like being at a real NASCAR race! Cars blowing fire out of their exhaust, the odd wreck at high speed, and Rednecks everywhere!

It was a blast, and I highly recommend it if you want to have a fun time with the family for cheap, check it out!

Mini Bike Racing at Greg Moore Raceway (Chilliwack)

So I found out that there's a Race Track in Chilliwack! The Greg Moore Raceway has been in Chilliwack for a few years and is home to the West Coast Cart Club.

I heard through a friend that there was going to be a Minibike Race at the Greg Moore Raceway this weekend, and decided to check it out. First off, when I say "Mini Bike" I mean it! The bikes are either tiny $4000 pocket bikes tuned to race, small CC dirt bikes with lowered suspension and slick race tires, Chopped and modified Vespa Scooters, or 2 stroke 200cc or less Crotch Rockets, ridden by Kids and Adults alike! It was cool to see so many dedicated racers tuning their bikes in the pits, taking practice laps, and finally racing there hearts out on the tight 12 corner track. Below are some of the shots I got of the Racers.

CN Rail - Derailment in Chilliwack

Yesterday at about 2pm a Westbound CN Rail Train Derailed in Chilliwack.The event took place on the piece of track between Evans Rd. and the Yale Rd. overpass. 24 cars reportedly left the tracks and were stuck in the gravel rail bed. None of the cars flipped over or hit any houses, and no one was injured.
These next few images show the last car to be taken off the tracks. In the process one of the Excavator drivers made a mistake and the whole thing went over! It nearly rolled right into someones backyard.

Eagle West was on site to provide Crane services to place the new track.

The Car was fully loaded with Grain when it went over and now it's spilled everywhere...gonna be some fat rats and mice now!For all the pictures; CLICK HERE

Rainer Zietlow and the Eco-Fuel Tour

I had the opportunity to photograph a Guiness Book of World Records holder this past week. Rainer Zietlow, and his Eco-Fuel Team, visited one of their sponsors, IMW Industries Ltd. here in Chilliwack, to tell us about his ongoing trek.Rainer Zietlow and his team are on the second part of their bid to tackle two of the world's longest roads using only compressed natural gas (CNG) as their vehicle fuel. This leg of the journey, called EcoFuel TransAmerica, will see them travel from Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of South America, to Barrow, Alaska, in their VW Caddy Maxi Ecofuel.Along the way, they will demonstrate the reliability of their natural gas vehicle (NGV) and the effectiveness of the clean, low-carbon fuel it consumes.

(BELOW) The CNG tanks inside the VW Maxi hold enough fuel to travel 2500km between fueling stations.
We also had a few Government offcials come out to take in the event. Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner and Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz were in attendance to take in the event. Barry shared a bit about how CNG can help with the lowering of Greenhouse gas emissions and also it's sustainability and reliability as a fuel source.

WCRA Rallycross - Hope B.C.

Yesterday, Julie and I went out to Hope B.C. to check out a Rallycross Race put on by the West Coast Rally Association. We didn't now what to expect at first, but once the cars got started, it was an exciting event to see. Julie of course, was extra excited to be there.....Once I signed the waiver and got my shiny traffic vest I was ready to shoot.The event had 2 classes; 2wd (front or rear) and 4wd. Each Drive got two laps of the track to pull out he best time they could.As for scoring, if a driver hit a cone they added 1 second to the overall time. If the missed a gate they added 3 seconds and if you missed a section (3 gates) you got the dreaded DNF. The fastest 2wd drivers where dong the course in about 33 sec and the fastest 4wd cars where getting it done in around 28sec.

The fastest car of the day was the Blue and Yellow Subaru Legacy Turbo driven by Canadian Rally Champion Patrick Richard, who made the course look easy...For all the shots CLICK HERE

Sam's Private Field Jump!

Today I got together with Mike, Brad, and Sam to get some shots of the boys hitting Sam's Monster Practice Gap Jump.
We all met up at 12pm and got right to business, as the clouds were looking pretty ugly...

Here's a shot of Sam Super Flipping the jump.I was able to shoot for about 45min before the rain started. After that it turned ugly and we decided to quit before somebody ate it and ended the day on a bad note.

Chilliwack Lake Re-con Mission

The Girls and I went up to Chilliwack Lake today, to have a look at what kind of Backdrops are available up there for future photo shoots. Once we finally made it to the lake, we found that the Park gate was closed and locked for the season. Not being the type to get discouraged, and having the confidence of the 4WD Delica, we drove up the side of the lake on the very rough access road. After a while, the road swooped down to lake level, and we were able to find a nice beach with huge boulders placed randomly on the shore.As the kids played, and Julie read her book, I snapped a few posed and candid shots to see what the beautiful mountains and lake looked like in a finished photo.I think having a wedding shoot or family photo's up here would be fantastic! Lloyd and Anoek's Wedding Day!

I had the pleasure of shooting with Tanya Nelmes of Bells & Babies Photography this past Saturday for Lloyd and Anoek's wedding.The Ceremony took place at the Old Wedding Chapel in Greendale just off Adams Rd. The Chapel was built in 1886 and has since been fully restored into a beautiful, intimate ceremony venue.Once finished with the Ceremony and Formal shots, Tanya, Lloyd, Anoek, and I went drove around Chilliwack to bag some killer shots of the couple.We took the couple to a few local locations that made for some great posed and candid shots.After that, we went out to the gravel bars of the Mighty Fraser River, capturing a lot of great shots the couple will be very happy with.HERE'S THE REST OF THE STORY

He was there to speak about The Creation Account in Genesis 1-11, and its relationship to the fundamental foundation of what we, as Christians, believe. Ever since becoming a Christian, the Creation/Evolution debate has been a hot topic for me. Ken Ham's lectures have an amazing way of explaining the answers to tough questions posed to every Christian, by the ever growing Atheist community. Elk Creek Falls

Ever since hearing about the amazing Elk Creek Falls a few weeks ago, I've been exited to get up there and see it for myself. Well, today was the day, and it was as spectacular as I had imagined! My Dad, Kelly, Carmen, Steve, Myself and a few others, made the arduous trek up the backside of Elk Mountain to view the awesomeness of Elk Creek Falls.We started our journey by driving to the end of Ruddock Rd. in Chilliwack, where we geared up for the long hike ahead. The trail begins by walking through some Private Property owned by the local Buddhist Monks, who have given Hikers special permission to cross their land to get to the falls "trail-head".

Finally in the bush, the trail was something to be desired....Devils Club lined the lower part of the trail and the remnants of logging years ago, litters the forest floor. As for the trail, it's scarce to non existent. Only the colored surveyors tape tied to random trees keeps you going in the right direction. The scenery inside the forest was amazing!!! 250 foot tall, Old Growth Douglas Firs, up to 8 feet across were some of the spectacles along the way. We stopped for a bite to eat and photo's of some smaller falls along the way.Once we neared the Main Big Falls, the trail went up, and when I say up, I mean straight up the side of the mountain! With 30+ pounds of Camera gear in my backpack I was really feeling the burn. At one point on the trail, something looked odd to me...I hung onto a tree and peered over the edge of the trail(200-300ft down). I noticed that the trail I was on was only held up by the roots of the massive trees above me!!!! Under the roots was nothing, the mountainside had slid away, leaving only the dirt above the roots for the trail. I could almost poke my ski pole right through to nothingness!!! At this point I felt my confidence melt away and fear begin to dominate my actions and thoughts. Although the falls were less than 10 minutes away, every step I took was unsteady and over cautious. Once we reached the falls, my Dad scoped out an unobstructed view of the falls to start shooting from. Here are the Results!

After a rough start to the day, Julie and I figured it would be a good idea to get out in the afternoon sun. We ended up going for a walk and a little PLAY TIME on the banks of the Vedder River.On the walk down the tracks, we came upon a huge Salamander basking in the warm winter sun. It was the biggest one I had ever seen, at least 8" long nose to tail.(Update: I have been told that this is a Rough-Skinned Newt)Once the kids were finished playing in the sand, I had to wash their hands. Below is the best way I could come up with...thanks for taking a picture Julie!Time to go.....

Tamahi Slalom Kayak Racing

Today I thought I'd head up to Chilliwack Lake for a relaxing drive and photo opportunity. While I was crossing the Tamahi Bridge over the Chilliwack River, I noticed a few Kayakers training on the Slalom Course.Kayaking is something I haven't tried to Photograph, but I've wanted to for the longest time. Needless to say I parked the Delica and started hunting for a few choice spots to shoot from. I ended up crossing back over the bridge to get a little closer to the action and talk to the Parents and Trainers. Turns out one of the Girls training (Jasmine in the above photo) is vying for a spot on the Canadian National Team and is only 15 Years old!

Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay

The Olympics are days away, and the Torch Relay came through Chilliwack today! I knew it would be tough to get shots of all the relay runners, but I employed the use of my trusted Mountain Bike to get me around. I started in Rosedale around Annis Rd. and from there, I went all the way to the Prospera center getting shots of nearly every Relay Participant. Along the way there were people eagerly awaiting the torch and others ready to tell the world the cost to the Public was too great. The fellow in the picture below was a joy to talk to...When I approached him, he yelled at me, and asked "who are you with" then let his angry, barking, dog run at me up until it just about jumped on me, at which point he pulled on the leash to stop the dog! I told him who I was, and what I was doing, which calmed him down, and then happily posed for a shot...what an ordeal! Anyway, Here is a link to the Torch Relay Album on Flickr

Secret DJ's in the Chilliwack River Valley

Julie thought it would be fun to go hit up the Greater Vancouver Zoo with our Girls as well as Mom, Emily, Seth and Heidi.

With very few people around, the animals were out and about like never before. The Cheetah was the story of the day for me. I had it chasing me with it's hackles up, ready to take me down...I didn't get many good shots of it because it was so close to the fence but a couple worked out ok.

Debbie Helsloot's Magazine Shoot.

We got a phone call from Debbie the other day. She was in need of a head and shoulders shot for a Magazine Article she was going to be interviewed for. Knowing her recent history, I jumped at the chance to photograph her.....

Debbie was at a Christian Rock Concert with her daughter on April 25, 2008 at Central Heights Church in Abbotsford. The two of them were dancing at the front of the stage, when the floor collapsed from the weight of the people dancing and rigging that held the lights and speakers! One of the large loudspeakers next to her, fell right on top of her, injuring her Spinal Cord. She was in Hospital for over 4 months, and doctors at first feared she would be paralyzed. While in Hospital, she regained some movement in her legs, and doctors expected that she'd be able to walk again in the future.

Fast forward to 2010, and Debbie's a Living, Breathing, Walking, Miracle! Debbie's still in Physio Therapy, but has conquered her injuries enough to be able to go about her normal daily routines. Talking with her was real treat! She is so full of life, and has a smile that can light up a room. Her story is truly a Miracle from God, and her life is now about sharing that story. She speaks often at local Church's about her trials with the injuries and how her faith brought her and her family through it all. Next up is Debbie's Magazine Interview! I can hardly wait to read it...(and look at the pictures)

A Walk Through the Othello Tunnels

Evah, Kiana, and I, went for an "Adventure" to the Othello Tunnels in Hope B.C. I was a bit disappointed to find a locked gate at the entrance to the Tunnels after walking 1/2 a Km, but like I said earlier....this was an Adventure!
After jumping the Fence, Damaging our stroller, and slipping on my ass, with our flash lights in hand, we walked though the Tunnels and checked out the beautiful views of the Coquihalla River and the spooky shadows in the Tunnels.

I was invited to shoot at a Society for Creative Anachronism Event this past weekend. Not knowing what the event was really all about, I was in for a bit of a surprise! The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. The people there were amazing and the work they put into their Armor and re-enactments was outstanding!

Another action packed night of racing at the Pipeline Indoor 4X Mountain Bike race this past Tuesday night. Cam Murphy had a night to forget...His chain snaped right out of the gate, and had a big crash in Turn 2, which involved getting run over by Daniel Mazuti.

Shed Shred - Chilliwack BC Indoor Ramp

I got invited to shoot at a Secret Indoor Riding Spot Today by local Chilliwack shredder Mike Dekoning.
Mike, Sam Dueck, and Reece Wallace provided the Talent for the shoot. It was a pretty sick sesh! Click HERE to view the album.

Here is the lighting setup I used for the shoot. Three, Canon 580EXII flash units, one used for Background fill and rider "rim" light, a second for rider illumination, and a third for shadow fill on the riders.
